Card of the Week: Three of Cups / Puffin

Three of Cups / Puffin card from Animal Totem Tarot.

Hello everyone! After a short break I am back at it. I needed the time to recharge, and welcome a new kitty to the family.

This week’s card is the Three of Cups / Puffin from Animal Totem Tarot.

The scene on the card is of the ocean shore. On top of each of the three upright cups stands a puffin. One has wings outstretched facing the sun looking ready to take off. The second has a bounty of fish being held in their beak. The third appears to be preening. They all seem to be enjoying their day.

Puffins have been connected to the spiritual realm because they have been compared to friars praying. When they are standing on the rocky cliffs, their heads bowed to the sea, they appear to be giving thanks and honoring their surroundings. But there are times when Puffins also seem to be joyful and having fun!

This week, while you are at work or doing the required mundane chores or duties, remember to also make time to have fun. Celebrate all the good that surrounds you. Stand in the sun’s warming light and feel the energy flow through you, enjoy a satisfying meal, get a new haircut or that fabulous smelling body wash or perfume/cologne you have had your eye on, or get a manicure/pedicure. Spend time with those you love.

Message from Puffin:

“All work and no play makes Puffin a very boring bird indeed. There must be balance in your life between the world you live in, the world your soul is in, and the joy you give for both. Which is why we party! Gather some friends and allow yourself to unwind; it’s time to take your serious face off and feel the fun of your physical journey.”

Have a super week!

Card of the Week: Two of Cups / Hermit Crab

Two of Cups from Animal Totem Tarot.

What I really enjoy about using modern Tarot decks is that often a new perspective can be seen from the traditional meaning of the card, or I learn something new. This week, I drew the Two of Cups from the Animal Totem Tarot and I found out about the fascinating symbiosis between hermit crabs and sea anemones.

This card depicts a hermit crab on the seabed, surrounded by coral. Behind the hermit crab are two cups laying on their side, on top of one of the cups is an anemone. Anemone’s often attach themselves to the shells of hermit crabs, but do no harm to the hermit crab. The anemone and hermit crab are travelling buddies, with the hermit crab carrying the anemone as it moves along. The anemone protects the hermit crab from predators as it’s tentacles will sting. If the hermit crab needs to move to a larger shell, it will gently detach the anemone from the old shell and place it on the new shell.

Relationships, including platonic, business, or romantic, cannot be just a one-way street. Each person in the relationship needs to find benefit. If it is one sided, it is doomed to stagnate or fail. If both parties in the relationship are working together, and find symbiosis, it is more likely to be successful.

This week, evaluate your relationships. Are they mutually beneficial? Have you been neglecting an important partnership and need to nurture it more? Are any too draining and it is time to let go? What is your ideal relationship?

Message from the Hermit Crab:

If ever there was an odd couple it would be us. We don’t seem to look like we belong together, but you will find us together on many a coral reef or aquarium. In fact, we could not think of anywhere else we would rather be than right here with each other, deep under the sea. Friends till the end.

Card of the Week: The Sun / Lemur

The Sun / Lemur card from Animal Totem Tarot.

Happy New Year everyone! For the first week in 2022, I drew a card from Animal Totem Tarot. The card I pulled was The Sun / Lemur.

This card depicts a ring-tailed lemur joyfully basking in the sun. He is sitting in a meditation position with his palms up and face towards the sun. The ring-tailed lemur is the only lemur species that is not nocturnal. They need the sun to survive. Without the heat from the sun their bodies would grow cold and they would die. So they bask in the light of the sun each and every day.

The sun gives life, and sheds light in the darkness. The sun can illuminate the path to enlightenment and happiness. This week welcome the light, and see what has been hidden in the darkness so it can be confronted and managed. Do something which energizes, heals, enhances your life and health. Share your light with others, your optimism can be infectious.

When I lived in Michigan, this time of year was the darkest and coldest. The sun’s light was minimal, and I missed it so much. For those of you living far north, try to enjoy as much of the sun as you can. Do not miss the opportunity to take walks in the middle of the day when the sun is out so you can bask in the sun’s energy. And take heart in knowing the days are getting longer now, the sun will be back in it’s full glory soon.

Message from Lemur:

“Are you ready to stand in the full light of your magnificence? Does the light bother you or draw you to it? The light is interesting, as not all can reside under it. I am the only one of my kind that actually ventures out into the light. The rest of my cousins prefer the shadows and the cloaking magic of the dark. But for me, the energy of the Sun not only warms my body so I can live, but it energizes my soul. Because of this, you will find me honoring its presence in my life each and every day, as it is important to honor that which gives us life.”
