Tarot Card of the Week: The Hierophant

The Hierophant card from the Universal Waite Tarot Deck.

Using the Universal Waite Tarot Deck, the card I drew was The Hierophant.

This card symbolizes traditional values, structures, and social conventions. Education, marriage, and religion are examples of traditions or social conventions that The Hierophant represents. Also, this card stands for institutions and their values, and the need to conform to their rules.

This week you may be confronted with a situation in which you decide that the best way to deal with it is to handle it in a way that has traditionally been successful. You may have to work within existing structures.

Situations surrounding social conventions may present themselves to you. Use common sense or traditional solutions to help solve any issues that may arise. This could include study or education, or ritual or methodical approaches.

Now may not be the time to think outside the box.

You may find solace and guidance in spirituality, specifically in rituals or ceremonies.

May your week be filled with joy!

Tarot Card of the Week: Page of Wands/Salamander

Page of Wands Salamander card from Animal Totem Tarot.

This week, I drew from the Animal Totem Tarot. The card I drew was the Page of Wands/Salamander.

This card depicts a salamander emerging on a stick from a bush or fallen tree.  He is curious as he views the world around him, and almost appears to be smiling with excitement.  There is water in the background. Salamanders need to be near water and keep their skin moist, if their skin dries out they will suffocate and die. This is an interesting observation since Wands tend to be associated with the element of fire, and in the Rider-Waite deck salamanders are depicted in the Wands court cards.

Fire can boil water until it has evaporated, or water can put out fire. The direction the fire and water take depends on how it is started, handled, and the intention.

You may begin to embark on a new creative pursuit this week, one that you have or will be passionate about.  That energy, when focused, can allow you to grow and expand your ideas as you learn. But don’t get so obsessed that you exhaust yourself or burn out.  New pursuits are exciting, but be sure to temper it with time for rest so you can rejuvenate.

Message from Salamander:

“In order to harness the energy of inspiration, you need to connect to your creative center. This in turn will spark the flame inside of you that is just waiting to burn brightly. Now is not the time for mastery, however; it is a time of experimentation and fun. Learn as much as you can while you can and don’t worry about doing it the wrong or right way.”

Have an exciting week!

Tarot Card of the Week: Two of Pentacles

For the Tarot card of the week, I am using a new (to me) deck, Aquarian Tarot. Originally published in 1970, the images on the cards are Art Deco-inspired, and do have Rider-Waite symbolism. Art Deco saw a resurgence around that time, which is what may have influenced the artist, David Palladini, as he was creating the cards in this deck.  I enjoy retro/vintage items, and was looking for decks that are still in print or available (and affordable) that were published during the 1970s. This was one that came up in my searches, and I am looking forward to working with it.

The card I drew was the Two of Pentacles.  This card shows a man staring at two pentacles seeming to be swirling in a figure eight in front of him.  He seems dazed, or fixated on the pentacles. There appears to be a body of water with waves behind him.

The image on this card differs from the traditional Rider-Waite deck in that it is more “zoomed in” to the person in the card. It looks like he is not trying to balance or juggle the pentacles with both hands. He may be holding them in his left hand, but not his right.

This week, consider if you have things truly under control.  You may be portraying to the world that you have things under control, but do you really?  Are you hiding your challenges, trying to detract from them, or only show part of what is going on?  If you are feeling overwhelmed to the point of being dazed or tired when looking at the tasks you are trying to juggle, you may need to make some adjustments, such as bringing in additional help (another hand?).

Have a great week!
