Tarot Card of the Week: Page of Wands/Salamander

Page of Wands Salamander card from Animal Totem Tarot.

This week, I drew from the Animal Totem Tarot. The card I drew was the Page of Wands/Salamander.

This card depicts a salamander emerging on a stick from a bush or fallen tree.  He is curious as he views the world around him, and almost appears to be smiling with excitement.  There is water in the background. Salamanders need to be near water and keep their skin moist, if their skin dries out they will suffocate and die. This is an interesting observation since Wands tend to be associated with the element of fire, and in the Rider-Waite deck salamanders are depicted in the Wands court cards.

Fire can boil water until it has evaporated, or water can put out fire. The direction the fire and water take depends on how it is started, handled, and the intention.

You may begin to embark on a new creative pursuit this week, one that you have or will be passionate about.  That energy, when focused, can allow you to grow and expand your ideas as you learn. But don’t get so obsessed that you exhaust yourself or burn out.  New pursuits are exciting, but be sure to temper it with time for rest so you can rejuvenate.

Message from Salamander:

“In order to harness the energy of inspiration, you need to connect to your creative center. This in turn will spark the flame inside of you that is just waiting to burn brightly. Now is not the time for mastery, however; it is a time of experimentation and fun. Learn as much as you can while you can and don’t worry about doing it the wrong or right way.”

Have an exciting week!
